Food Projects
Food For Thought
Food For Thought has been in existance for many years as a reply to the community. We’ve been assisting communities in KZN and Gauteng (Phoenix, Chatsworth, Verulam, Inanda, Tembisa, Diepsloot, etc.) over the years and have so far assisted in distributing 10 000 meals.
We’d like to consolidate our efforts, and have a more efficient system which intergrates our private and business supporters. If you are in the food business and end up with surplus prepared food, or ingredients that are fit for consumption, please get in touch with us. We can assist in getting the food collected by our logistics partner who has generously volunteered to collect and drop off meals and ingredients to our distribution centre where we inspect, repackage and distribute to the needy.
With every project we’ve ran, or assisted with, we’ve noticed the hungry assemble like a military drill, with the hopes of filling their belly – sadly often some are turned away as there is not enough for everyone. We’d like to have a consistant distribution of around 3000 meals a month, and with your generosity we can make that happen.
How can you Help?
- Donate surplus prepared food, or fresh or dry ingredients for food preparation and redistribution.
- Donate ingredients – that go towards the preparation for the meals – view a list of items that we always require here.
- Donate paper plates, food packaging, carboard boxes, plastic crates, plastic buckets, etc.
- Donate cash – of any amount that goes towards the purchasing of ingredients for our Food for Thought project.
Hydroponic Food Labs
We aim to design, build and install Hydroponic Food Labs in rural KZN schools in areas such as KwaDukuzu (Nanoti), Phoenix, Inanda, KwaMashu, etc. This project is planned to commence after we have prepped the site at Shanti Bhavan. To keep up to date on this project, subscribe to our newsletter or keep a look out on our Blog for more information.

Moringa Plantation
We also plan to start up a Moringa plantation. The aim is to serve both the local and international markets. The production will fund SSBF activities, as well as provide nutrition to millions. Fun fact: Moringa is classified as a superfood because it contains more Vitamin C than an orange, and more protein than an egg – and it’s a vegetable.
